How does the SawStop safety system work?
The blade carries a small electrical signal. When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the human body is conductive. This change activates a fast-acting spring that forces an aluminum brake block into the spinning blade. The blade’s angular momentum then drives it down into the table and shuts off the motor.
What happens if the brake is triggered? Is the saw ruined?
No, the saw is not ruined. SawStop saws are designed to withstand the force of the brake activation. You will simply need to replace the brake cartridge and the saw blade. The replacement process takes roughly 90 seconds.
Can I cut wet wood or metal on a SawStop?
Yes, but you must use Bypass Mode. Highly conductive materials like very wet/green wood, aluminum, or foil-faced insulation can trigger the brake. If the "Overload" light flashes during a test cut, it means the material is too conductive; you should then restart the saw in Bypass Mode to finish the cut safely without the brake active.
Can I use a Dado set with a SawStop table saw?
